Carson Pirie Scott Department Store in Joliet, IL had a Lancome National Makeup Artist event today, featuring one of Lancome’s most sought-after makeup artists, Alex Sanchez. Alex has been an artist to the stars at the Academy Awards and has worked with some of modeling’s biggest names. It’s a really fun event that I have participated in for a few years. It gives you a feeling of being pampered, and you also learn about different products and cool cosmetic applying techniques. And let’s be honest… who wouldn’t like to have their makeup done by professional??
My husband just so happens to be the Store Manager of the Carson’s, so I was asked to produce a Sweet Table for the Alex event. Um, let me think about it…….uh, YES!!!! So, in between Christmas shopping, present wrapping, and the raising of two children, I’ve been busy in my kitchen this past week. It’s a lot work, but it’s totally worth it when it’s something you love to do.
For this Sugar Shindig, I wanted to go big on the cake and test myself. I went for it and produced a stacked 3 tier cake, that definitely has some flaws, but overall I’m pretty happy with it. As soon as I walked into the store carrying the heavy thing, customers were doing double takes and asking, “Is that a cake? WOW!” Now please understand, I’m very critical of my work – but I have to admit, it felt really good hearing that! 🙂 On the menu today we have: a 3 tier yellow cake with Buttercream Frosting & covered in Marshmallow Fondant, Buttermilk Chocolate Cupcakes with Nutella Cream Cheese Frosting, Spiced Cupcakes with Buttercream Frosting, and Lancome Sugar Cookies.
