Those of you who frequent this blog and those of you who know me & my family, are aware of the fact that we have a love for comic books and Star Wars. Well, my husband is the comic book collector, but we all love Star Wars. We have comic books displayed on our shelves, which is an interesting conversation starter when company comes over, and we have numerous Star Wars posters and memorabilia scattered throughout the house. So, when it came time to throw a Super Bowl party this past weekend, I had to decide what kind of cake to make. To me, it only made sense to make something Star Wars related…..why you might ask??? Why not?! 🙂 I decided to make a 3D cake, and since this the first one I’ve done, I tried to think of something not too complicated. The Emperor seemed like a good choice, because I just had to form the body out of cake, and then I’d add the head and hands made out of fondant. Since I know how to make hard candy, I thought blue lighting shooting out would be an extra and unexpected detail.
On the menu for this Sugar Shindig: a Devil’s Food Chocolate Cake with Chocolate fudge filling, covered in Buttercream and Marshmallow fondant.
My sister and brother-in-law came over for the Super Bowl and brought with them their cousins and little girl, who was an absolute doll. I was surprised at how much she liked the cake, and her parents did as well. It just so happens that the little sweetheart is turning 3 years old next month, so I think I’ll be getting hired to make a cake for her- a Dora cake!! I’m definitely looking forward to it, but before then I have my son’s birthday (who’s turning 2) & my nephew (who’s turning 1) coming up next week. Busy, busy, busy….stay turned for some great cakes in the next few weeks!
