My little brother turns 8 years old this week, but the party to celebrate it was this past weekend. Of course I made the cake, and was really excited about it until I found out what kind of cake he wanted. Plants vs Zombies?!?! I never heard of the game, so I had to some research to figure out how to turn a game which features plants fending off zombies, into a birthday cake. Well, I found an online free trial version you can play, and for those of you who have never heard of Plants vs. Zombies, the game is a riot! I have to admit, I might have to purchase the full version of the game, because it was just too much fun. My 5-year-old and I played the strategy-based game for a while, and then it was back to cake baking business. 🙂
I was quite pleased with how the cake turned out, and since there were already action figures to put on the cake, it made my job that much easier. I usually steer away from inedible decorations, but these worked out great because the cake became interactive. The kids were moving the figures around like you would while playing the actual Plants vs. Zombies game, which I thought was pretty cool!
On the menu for this Sugar Shindig: A Chocolate Buttermilk Sheet cake, with a Cream Cheese pudding filling, covered in Vanilla Buttercream and Marshmallow Fondant.
